Zerg Liste Appeals Thread
« on: March 24, 2010, 06:59:55 AM »
Due to the number of complex appeals and debates which have arisen on the Zerg Liste in recent months, slowing down the updating process, I am creating this thread to handle appeals against listings or reports, as well as delisting requests. In doing this we hope to speed up the process of maintaining the Zerg Liste, getting cheats listed, and clean players cleared, faster.

We thank you for your support. :)

Zerg Mini-FAQ
What Is Zerging?
Zerging is defined as any use of multiple accounts which violates the rules given by Kevan, the creator of Urban Dead.  In the game FAQ, Kevan stipulates that multiple characters played by the same person must "lead completely separate existences".  It is every player's responsibility to know and understand these rules, and any violation of them is cheating -- whether or not the intent was malicious.  As a guideline, Kevan recommends that multiple characters be kept in separate suburbs.  We strongly feel that his recommendation should be followed.  A player who constantly ignores the recommendation will cross the line sooner or later.

The two most common forms of zerging are using multiple characters to circumvent the AP limit and keeping characters in close proximity for safety or strength.  Placing two characters in the same building or nearby buildings is always zerging, regardless of purpose.  Two nearby characters are always indirectly beneficial to each other, even if they don't directly aid one another.  This is considered to be an unfair advantage, and thus cheating.  Similarly, replacing one character with another, even if they are never near each other, is not allowed.  By moving out one character and bringing another to its place you are expending more AP in one location than a single character would permit.  This too is an unfair advantage, even if you only chat or search.
Zerg Mini-FAQ
Want to get off the Zerg list? Itís easy. Here is how you do it.
Its worth noting that any attempt to lie or mislead the ZL mods at any point in requesting removal will result in all your alts permanently being added.
This applies to falsely claiming any listed alts are not yours or anything similar that could interfere with unbias and neutral operation of this list.
Please PM The Huntsman if you have any questions relating to this.

1: Go to the zerg liste appeals thread--found here.

2: Post the names of your characters who are on the zerg list with profile
Example:

Obvious Zerger     http://www.urbandead.com/profile.cgi?id=534602
Obvious Zerger1   http://www.urbandead.com/profile.cgi?id=534607

3: Post screenshots or UrbanDead witness links that show these characters are indeed NOT together. Several suburbs of distance would be best.
Canít take a screenshot?  Try downloading Printkey2000.
Post links to your evidence hosted on either http://imageshack.us, www.iwitness.urbandead.info (preferred), http://udwitness.oddnetwork.org or http://iamscott.net/dumbwit.html.

4: Ask nicely to get off the list (this part is the hardest part--no whining, no excuses, no complaining or bitching or moaning.) Something along the lines of "I would like to be removed from the list please as my characters are no longer together and will never be together ever again. Thank you."

5: Sit back and enjoy being off the list!

Be aware if your characters are found together again you will be on the list PERMANENTLY    ("PermaZerg")

Some general advice to people who come here accused of zerging:
  • Complaining about you (or someone else) getting PKed when you (or they) did zerg is the dumbest thing you can do. Don't even bother bringing it up, you'll only piss people off. Cheaters have absolutely no right to complain that they are getting PKed is "against the spirit of the game" -- cause guess what? Cheating is against the spirit of it too.
  • Claiming that we should rely on Kevan's countermeasures is the second dumbest thing you can do. Don't even bother bringing it up, you'll only piss people off. As evidenced by the Stallone and GODhack zergs (especially how they needed to be reported to Kevan), as well as the large number of people who come in here admitting fault, it's plainly obvious that zergers -- both those that are doing it intentionally and those who do it through ignorance -- are rife in Urban Dead... despite said countermeasures.
  • Complaining about getting picked up because you have a similar sounding name to someone else is the third dumbest thing you can do. Have you ever seen the number of zergs with similar sounding names? Just like people in the real world occasionally get accused of murder when they did not commit it, it is inevitable that someone innocent will get picked up for zerging sooner or later. Have a handle similar to other people's? You may get called out for Zerging. State your case plainly and point out "Yes, I know it looks suspicious but Bob is an extremely common name.", and you'll get off the List in an incredibly short period of time.
  • Really... how many times does it need to be said? Take it as a given: mouthing off is not a good idea. Approach things calmly, and reasonably, and you'll get off the list in no time. If you mouth off instead? You may, eventually, get off the Zerg List but will not get you off the personal hit lists of the people you piss off. Both major forums are frequently cased by regular and dedicated PKers who will make your life in Malton hell if you give them reason to. Just look to girltrauma and artesoldier for proof of that; I strongly doubt anyone here is going to stop PKing them after the way they acted -- I know I'm not.

The "Zerg Mini FAQ" and "How to be removed" literature should be locked in here as it is on the Zerg List thread. To avoid confusion, hunters ought to change their tinyurls and direct zergs here, once the instructions are in place. You know how those zergs are, got to be spoon-fed everything. ;D

Apologies for double posting, but I only saw this thread after I had been directed to the prior discussion that most zerg hunters still link to.

I made an effort to address this last May but RL got in the way.  Now that I have time to be more active in game, I wish to clear this up.

I The Envoy, http://urbandead.com/profile.cgi?id=630371

have been accused of abusing an alleged alt, Dickholeguy

http://urbandead.com/profile.cgi?id=787675

I believe I was also accused of having a whole "family" of alts (The Envoy's mother, The Envoy's child, etc. etc.) but I think even people on this board saw those as obvious attempts by The Envoy's detractors to "get me."  (Ironically, the likely culprit is basically a group of 5-6 players running about 8 alts each, but that's a different matter).

In any case, The Envoy and Dickholeguy were "nailed" for posting on the same computer and working on similar timeframes.  That's because in RL The Envoy and DHG's players were working on the same contract, happened to be U-dead players and played on the same personal computer which I brought in since casual gaming was a no-no use for the internet enabled computers we had available during our assignment.

Obviously, this case is going to be messy, and when these allegations were made aware to us, mutual RLs were such that we just figured we'd try to stay apart a bit and suffer the occasional sanction.  I, having time to do so, would like to clear our character's respective names (and autonomy) and wish to know what we should do to clear this up, if possible.

best,

The Envoy

p.s.  I did receive a private message back in May from one Astinos87.  Unfortunately, either due to time parameters or my inability to figure out this board's interface, I have not been able to reply directly, so figured in the present it's best to solicit you all through this board again.

Are you still in contact with this other player? I haven't looked at all the details of the case yet, but one of the easiest ways might be to get him to make an account and post to this thread with his side of the story. I assume you both are no longer using the same PC at this point?

As an unfortunately necessary anti-spam measure you aren't able to send PMs until you've made at least 10 posts on this board. Astinos87 is not with the ZL mod team, presently. If you have something that needs to be relayed privately, we'll try to make some accommodation, but we prefer to do things out in the open.

No worries about my inability to reply to the PM sent me.  I just didn't want to clog board traffic if there were prelims I could go through off board.  So as I understand it, to get things started, I contact DHG's player to post on this board corroborating our zerg mistake.  I'll do that and let DHG's player make his case and we'll take things from there.

It's funny as if you read The Envoy's UD wiki page you should see that I sort of got started in UD as something of a zerg hunter on my own.  Even treated it IC as an in game phenomenon related to the zed outbreak.

Hi folks,

One of the members of our group Squadron1111 has been zerg listed. His name is cameron shelley. He made his case here:
http://zombies.dementiastudios.org/boards/index.php?topic=3182.msg52635#msg52635

He was told that if/when his ex-girlfriend timed out that he could post a screenshot of his contacts list showing her crossed out.

I see on my contacts that she has indeed timed out! In order to get this case resolved I'm going to post the screen shot here showing that of Cameron Shelly and katie heritage and katie hereatage only Cameron is still active.

http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/2831/cameronshellykatiekatie.png

Note that he never did zerg, it was a mistaken accusation. But this will hopefully be what you guys need to take him off the list.  The Zerg Liste is imperfect, which is frustrating, but at the same time it's the only thing we have to identify zergs so we'll work with you guys as best we can.

Thanks!

Normally we insist that applicants for removal present their own cases, but as the player claiming Cameron Shelley has already come by and posted, we'll go with this. As it is impossible for us to ascertain the circumstances behind the creation of these three characters, Cameron Shelley will be removed from the Zerg Liste on the next update based on the above evidence of the other two listed alts being idled out. Please note that this is a removal - if Cameron Shelley and either of the two Katies are spotted in zerging proximity in the future, they will be perma-listed.
The two Katies will remain on the list for now as this evidence is presented under the supposition that they are, in fact, the same player. - Marcus

Hey guys!

My Trooper M Riggs seems to be on the Zerg Liste. Now, MCDU has a stricter policy on zergs than the DEM *cough*, so if we don't get this resolved I'm going to have to get him processed for de-foruming.

He made his case here, but at that time he was refused because the other characters he claimed to be inactive we're still active. This image shows a contacts list as of today with the other two profiles listed as inactive. I know this does not disprove the allegations against him, but it should be enough to prove that if anything, he's not doing it now.

If this doesn't work, please let me know.

As above, we'll take this as addt'l third party evidence supporting Riggs' original request for removal. I'll slate M Riggs and the rest for removal on the next update. - Marcus

Here they are in IMGShack form:

http://img402.imageshack.us/i/66279092.jpg/

Right now, they aren't within 10 blocks of each other by my count, but you may want to get some more space between them, its really close still.

Also, you could use this instead of having to use printscreen:
http://iamscott.net/dumbwit.html

You can bookmark the top link there and use it to take screenshots that are automatically loaded onto a server so you shouldn't have to worry about the problems you saw with Imgshack.

Hi, I'd like to be taken off the zerger list.  My survivor Drodro
http://www.urbandead.com/profile.cgi?id=464547

I also have characters drodro3 and drodro5, both are zombies.  Drodro is around Lerwill Heights, drodro3 around Pennville and drodro5 around Ft. Creedy.  So there is no interaction!  When I first joined I had a drodro2 and drodro4 survivor but those have been inactive for a long time.  Not exactly sure what prompted my getting on the list, but I've been scrupulous about staying apart once I learned what zerging is, so I'd appreciate not being killed anymore!

Slated for removal. - Marcus

Hey, thanks for dropping by, Drodro. You've been on the Liste since 2007! Here's the post spotting Drodro and Drodro2 :

http://zombies.dementiastudios.org/boards/index.php?topic=2946.msg36404#msg36404

If you look at the first post in Zerg Liste 9 it'll tell you how to get off the Liste. You need screenshots. Since Drodro2 is inactive, if you have a screenshot of that character in another's contacts, lined out, that would probably do.

Since you've mentioned the other Drodros, maybe you should screenshot them as well...
